March 1966

Luna 10 became the first artificial satellite of the Moon in March 1966. It did so just in time for the opening of the CPSU Congress. For the occasion, it broadcast the music of the Internationale live, with the sound of static in the background. Party members were right to applaud enthusiastically. After 1991, it was revealed that the music had been recorded a few days earlier, again by Luna 10, to avoid embarrassment.
