Rocco Petrone was appointed assistant to Director Kurt Debus for all launch operations from Cape Canaveral. Debus wrote of Petrone: “He has tackled a multitude of major organizational, technical, and economic problems, almost always under the pressure of the limited time we have available to make the most important decisions here at the space center. In solving these problems, he demonstrates a rare capacity for analysis and innovation. He has demonstrated great aggressiveness in pursuing and achieving key objectives.
