Kaesong, Korea. The Korean War ceasefire is signed. Representatives of the UN, the United States, North Korea, and China sign. The treaty states “ensure a complete cessation of hostilities and of all acts of armed force in Korea until a final peaceful settlement is achieved.” The peace treaty will not follow, and the two nations, North and South Korea, will remain in a state of non-belligerent war. The Korean armistice establishes the ceasefire line at the 38th parallel; 36,574 American casualties, including 23,500 killed in action, 10,000 wounded, and 7,000 prisoners of war.
