Pauling publishes his article on the alleged triple helix of DNA, but before publishing it, a copy is given by Pauling’s son, Peter, to his laboratory colleagues James Watson and Francis Crick who will be encouraged to continue their research on the subject, and who will soon discover the double (not triple) helix structure of DNA, demonstrating experimentally that phosphorous is found on the outside (not on the inside as Pauling had hypothesized).
