Oppenheimer, Fermi, Lawrence, Compton write a letter of recommendations to the President of the United States where they recognize the country’s obligation to use the bomb to save American lives in the war with Japan, they ask to also notify Great Britain, Russia, France, China of the progress in the nuclear field and they recognize the absence of valid alternatives to the military use of the bomb, in particular they recognize that a technical demonstration would probably not be enough.
