The testimony, brought to the general public by newsreels, of the first liberated Nazi concentration camps—Bergen-Belsen, Ohrdurf, Nordhausen, and Buchenwald—irrevocably changes the moral landscape. It seems to justify everything the Allies did during the war: the bombing of cities, the insistence on unconditional surrender, the economic blockade.
