American Colonel Boris Pash of Operation Alsos arrives in Hechingen, where he knows the Nazi atomic pile is located. He finds all the Nazi nuclear scientists except Otto Hahn and Werner Heisenberg. The pile is made up of 664 uranium cubes that multiply neutrons sevenfold. Heisenberg calculates that simply increasing the pile’s size by 50% is enough to achieve a self-sustaining chain reaction.
