American troops enter the Ohrdurf concentration camp, a subsidiary of Buchenwald, and on April 11 they arrive at the main Buchenwald camp, where 20,000 inmates are still held. General Eisenhower invites Western journalists and local residents to the camp, who are called upon to bury the dead and clear the rubble.
