The Porsche VK 4502P heavy tank project with mixed electric and internal combustion propulsion was selected by the Nazis for series production, the official designation was Panzerkampwagen VI Tiger Ausfuhrung B (Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger Ausf.B); it would later become known as the Tiger II; 1500 were commissioned but only 500 were actually produced before the end of the war.
