The Los Alamos Laboratories are established in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Oppenheimer, who had already gathered a group of physicists in the summer of 1942 to study nuclear weapons, is at its head. The site is on a desert plateau. Neither their families nor the public will learn of these projects. The researchers are given false personal details and forced to live in secrecy. This is where the nuclear bomb is built from plutonium.
