Summer 1942

The German submarine Innsbruck, departing from its base in Lorient, France, dropped off eight saboteurs off Long Island, New York. Their task was to wreak havoc on the city by sabotaging factories, blowing up bridges, and disrupting power and rail networks. The Germans were discovered and arrested by FBI agents before they could take action. A second attempt followed on November 29, 1944.
