Tobruk, Libya. 9:00 a.m. Italian artillery must suspend fire to avoid hitting their own advancing troops. The besieged surrender en masse. General Koppler asks to be isolated from the black troops who are also prisoners. Rommel refuses: “For me, all soldiers are the same!”
