Prague. After the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in the British SOE’s Operation Anthropoid, the SOE agents, Slovak Jozef Gabčík and Czech Jan Kubiš, who carried out the assassination, are hunted by the Gestapo and the SS. With large sums of money and interrogations, the Gestapo manages to gain access to an SOE safe house. On June 17, 1942, the SS and Gestapo break into the safe house. The landlady asks to use the bathroom and swallows a cyanide capsule. Her 17-year-old son, Ata, is interrogated and tortured for the entire day. He is shown his mother’s severed head and threatened to do the same to his father. Ata relents and tells the Gestapo what they want to know. He will be executed in Mauthausen on October 24, 1942.
