Soviet industrial war production surpassed that of the Nazis. Safely beyond the Urals, the Soviet bear produced 25,000 tanks, 25,000 aircraft, and 30,000 medium- and heavy-caliber artillery pieces in 1942. The USSR, unlike Germany, was also engaged on only one (major) front. The entry of the United States into the war rekindled the hopes of the USSR and the United Kingdom, the only European nations not yet conquered by the Nazis.
