Demyansk, in the Valdai Mountains (source of the Volga), Russia. General Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt’s Nazi II Corps is encircled by the Soviets for twenty days. 100 men and 20,000 horses are resupplied during this time by white-painted Junkers Type 52 trimotors: 65,000 tons of supplies. Eventually, the pocket is dispersed and the Germans are freed from the siege.
