Bletchley Park. The first “Bombe,” the machine designed by Alan Turing to automatically decrypt Enigma, enters service. It lacks the Diagonal Board designed by Gordon Welchman, so it stops too frequently for a potential candidate, generating too many false alarms. It will be used only against the Kriegsmarine Enigma (navy), not against the German Army or Luftwaffe Enigma.
