Nikola Tesla, at the age of 81, leaves the New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan, on his daily walk to feed the pigeons in Central Park. He is hit by a taxi and thrown onto the pavement. He refuses medical attention and asks to be taken back to his hotel room. He breaks three ribs and contracts pneumonia. His health will suffer for years to come.
