The American company Kimberly Clark, after inventing Cellucotton as a sanitary napkin and subsequently using it as a feminine hygiene product, invented Kleenex. Initially, Cellucotton met with resistance due to customers’ modesty in requesting it, and Kimberly Clark sought other products and ways to market it. In 1920, Bert Fourtness, a company employee, discovered that ironing cellulose sheets produced tissues soft enough to be used on the face. In 1924, the first disposable paper handkerchiefs were marketed under the name Kleenex. Kimberly Clark is now one of the largest companies in the world.
