H.G. Wells publishes a science fiction novel, “The World Set Free,” in which an atomic weapon is first theorized. The novel is read by Leo Szilard, who is impressed by the story. Szilard will be a prominent figure in the future Manhattan Project, which aims to develop the atomic bomb.
