Venice. The bell tower of St. Mark’s has collapsed. Terrifying cracks had been appearing on the north side for several weeks, worsening until its sudden, tragic end. The bell tower had been under construction since the 9th century, and was not completed until 1511. The new bell tower will be erected “where and as it was” and completed on April 25, 1912, the feast of St. Mark.
