Paris. Eugene Anatole Demarcay isolates europium, a rare earth. Europium is the most reactive of the rare earths, so much so that it must be preserved in oil to prevent it from catching fire. It will be used in Euro banknotes (perhaps because of its name?) bound in various compounds with strontium, gallium, sulfur, acetone, aluminum oxides, and barium oxides.
