Cuba (Spanish possession). Spain sends 220,285 soldiers overseas to quell a revolt of 30,000 Cubans. This is the largest military force to cross the Atlantic until the Normandy landings. The Cuban revolt is temporarily quelled, but continues for years as a guerrilla war.
