Heinrich Hertz dies at just 36. He made an extraordinary contribution to science, paving the way for the twentieth century of electricity after the 19th century of steam. He was the first to experimentally confirm Maxwell’s controversial theory. Hertz’s health had begun to deteriorate several years earlier: he suffered from severe toothache, which led to the decision to extract all his teeth. The pain then spread to his throat and nose. The cause was identified as a tumor in the skull. He underwent several surgeries. He died of blood poisoning.
