The British arrive again in Afghanistan, and make a second (not triumphant) entry into Kabul. At first, the story seems to follow the same pattern as in 1841-42, but this time when the first insurgents appear, they are mowed down by Gatling guns. The Afghans submit to British rule, but the hatred remains.
