The German philosopher Gottlob Frege, after moving from Wismar on the Baltic coast to Jena and then to Göttingen, published Begriffsschrift (Ideography). This was a new symbolism for clarifying logical relationships, still used in propositional calculus. Modern mathematical logic was born.
