Prussia demands from defeated France territories (Alsace and Lorraine) and indemnities amounting to 6 billion gold francs. After further negotiations, the sum is set at 5 billion francs (623 billion euros today) and will be paid in full. The cession of the territories will poison Franco-German relations for decades to come.
