Porthcurno, Cornwall, England. A small submarine cable station is built by the Falmouth, Gibraltar and Malta Telegraph Company to connect England and India by telegraph line. Over the next 30 years, the station will grow enormously, becoming the landing point for as many as five submarine cables to the British colonies, carrying thousands of messages every day.
