Atlanta, Georgia. Shermann’s advance on Atlanta is completed with the crossing of the Chattahoochee by the Army of the Cumberland, the Army of the Ohio, and the Army of Tennessee (unified). That evening, Confederate General Johnston is dismissed for failing to stop the advance. Command is given to General Hood.
