4:00 PM. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. After a brief but intense artillery barrage, the Confederates assault the Union lines. For five miles as far as the eye can see, gray Confederate lines emerge from the woods. The fate of the battle, and perhaps the entire war, hangs in the balance. Both sides realize it. With heavy losses, the Texans of Hood’s division manage to cling to the southern edge of Cemetry Hill: Little Round Top, only to be quickly driven back.
