Gaeta. The Savoy army begins bombarding the fortress of Gaeta with the brand-new Cavalli cannons, which have a greater range than the Bourbon ones. Inside the fortress, the king and queen, Francis II and Maria Sofia, resist. They will hold out for 102 days, making it perhaps the most dignified moment of the Bourbon decline.
