Garibaldi and his men began their descent toward Palermo, toward Porta Termini, east of the city. They rushed in and built a barricade, which Francesco Carbone climbed onto and remained there for a while, amid the whistling of cannonballs. With Garibaldi’s men inside the city walls, the balance of power shifted in their favor.
