In the lecture hall of the University of Göttingen, Bernhard Riemann presents his dissertation: “Uber die Hypothesen, welche der Geometrie zugrunde liegen” (On the Hypotheses on Which Geometry Is Based), completely reformulating 3,000 years of geometry, doing so in simple German with almost no mathematical notation. It will give rise to differential geometry as we know it today.
