Giuseppe Garibaldi went to New York and remained there until 1851. Other Italians had already taken refuge in New York, such as General Avezzana, former Minister of War, Antonio Meucci, Garibaldi’s supporter Hugh Forbes, and many others linked to the New York newspaper Eco d’Italia.
