Duke Francis V institutes elementary education for children: “In every city, capital, and in those towns or villages where it is deemed appropriate, provision is made for the education of children with gymnasiums or elementary schools, unless there are seminaries or public colleges, which in themselves sufficiently provide for them.” On this occasion, the Decimal Metric System is adopted as the official system taught in schools.
