Pilsner, Bohemia (now Czechia). Lager beer, with its characteristic pale color, is invented. A few years earlier, also in Bohemia, a method for producing glass on an industrial scale at a low cost had been invented, allowing beer mugs to be sold, made of glass that allows customers to see what they’re drinking. And they don’t like it: the beer often varies in color from dark brown to amber. This will lead to the success of Pilsner beer, with its distinctive, transparent blond color.
