Veneto. Between Montebello and Sorio, the Venetian Crusaders, a confused mass of volunteers armed in various ways, clash with 3,000 Austrians who had emerged from Verona. The volunteers fought bravely, but, completely unsuited to open battle, suffered a crushing defeat. Ultimately, Friuli would return to Austrian hands.
