Joseph Antoine Ferdinand Plateau, known for his studies on stroboscopes and cinematography, conducted an experiment: fascinated by the persistence of images on the retina, he stared directly at the sun for 25 seconds. This resulted in the loss of his sight for several days. He then regained it temporarily, only to lose it permanently after 14 years.
