At the end of the Napoleonic Wars, including the French Revolutionary Wars, between 1792 and 1815, 3.5 million men lost their lives on the battlefields of Europe. By comparison, in the American Revolution, a few years earlier, 4,435 Americans lost their lives up to and including Yorktown, and another 2,260 in the War of 1812. Twenty times as many Frenchmen lost their lives defending the French Revolution as Americans did defending their own.
