The Indian subcontinent, divided between Hindu kingdoms and British colonial dominions, is declared no longer an Islamic country by the leader of the Delhi Ulama. This follows three centuries of Mongol rule, which fused Indian traditions with the Islamic religion, and the previous four centuries of Islamic rule over much of India.
