Thomas Young passes light through two slits and discovers that the result is interference, consistent with a wave nature of light. The corpuscular theory is (temporarily) set aside. The wave nature of light will later be confirmed by Maxwell in 1864, and it will be necessary to wait for Einstein in the 20th century to understand the dual nature of light.
