Sweden: Christopher Polhem builds one of the first automated factories using water. The factory is located in Stjärnsund and immediately sparks fear among workers who fear losing their jobs. The factory is eventually burned down in 1734. However, around 20 watches a year are still produced in Stjärnsund using Polhem’s manufacturing method.
