Bartolomeo Eustachi, an Italian anatomist who studied the human body in Padua by experimenting on unclaimed cadavers, dies. He and his students studied on a tilting table, where an animal carcass had been cleverly nailed to the other side, and which was instantly overturned to throw the corpse into the river below, upon the arrival of an inspector.
