Mehmet II the Conqueror gathers 80,000 men to wage war on the Wallachians. Led by Vlad (later known as the Impaler), they take cover in the impenetrable Wallachian forests and empty and burn towns and villages, later carrying out guerrilla warfare and sudden attacks. Vlad III, Dracula, of the Draculesti branch, the future founder of the city of Bucharest, had been handed over to the Turks as a child along with his brother Radu, as part of the (then) goodwill agreements between Vlad II (father of Vlad the Impaler) and Murad II (father of Mehmet II). Dracula has Mehmet find a forest of impaled figures. The Janissaries quickly recognize them as comrades-in-arms and ambassadors. Mentally weakened and weakened by disease, the Ottoman army retreats.
