Admiral Zhen He’s first African mission during the Ming Dynasty. He reached Somalia and Kenya. He may also have reached South Africa and circumnavigated the Cape of Good Hope. Chinese art of the period is rich in references to Africa, and, conversely, 15th-century Chinese handicrafts have been found on the East African coast.
