Fourth Genoa-Venice War. Carlo Zeno plundered Genoese merchant ships throughout the Mediterranean because all Genoese forces were concentrated in Venice. He plundered Genoese merchantmen everywhere between Genoa and Sicily, a route he made twice. He then pushed eastward to Tenedos, then Constantinople, and finally Beirut, always plundering and burning Genoese ships. Even when informed that he was needed in Venice, he could not resist the temptation of the presence of the largest Genoese cog in the port of Rhodes and attacked her, plundering her for her enormous booty. The Richignona, carrying 300 men, including 160 wealthy merchants, and a cargo worth half a million gold ducats, was discovered.
