Sardinia. Third Venetian-Genoese War. The Venetian fleet, under the command of Niccolo’ Pisani, won a resounding victory over the Genoese at Alghero, but a new fleet under the command of the Genoese Paganino Doria eluded the Venetians and managed to enter the Adriatic, causing significant damage. It then eluded the Venetians again and managed to plunder the Aegean. Pursued by Pisani, it was besieged at Chios. There, it refused to sail out to battle, so the Venetians devoted themselves to plundering nearby Genoese merchant ships, then retreated to the nearby Venetian bases of Modone and Corone. The Genoese, having received reinforcements, in turn sought out Pisani, besieged him, and ultimately captured him and all his ships, achieving a resounding triumph. Venice, thanks to its skillful diplomacy, nevertheless managed to recover well from the defeat.
