Aegean Sea. Third Venetian-Genoese War. The Genoese send a fleet of 64 galleys under the command of Paganino Doria. A small Venetian fleet under Niccolo’ Pisani, with 20 galleys, is in the Aegean seeking plunder. When Pisani learns of Doria’s fleet, he takes refuge in Negroponte, pursued by Doria. Here he sinks all his own ships, then uses his men, successfully, to defend the city from the Genoese. He then refloats his ships and sets out in pursuit of the Genoese, but by now it is November and the season is too late. He will catch up with them the following year.
