Landriano, south of Milan. Frederick Barbarossa and his army take up position and attack the Ambrosian formation by surprise, returning from a victorious mission against the Empire’s common allies. In three consecutive attacks, the imperials, superior in number, defeat the Milanese. 600 are captured and at least 150 killed. This is a devastating blow for Milan: 20% of its cavalry has fallen into enemy hands, along with 400 horses.
