King Edward the Confessor of England (who succeeded Harencut, son of Cnut, son of King Svein Forkbeard of Denmark) dies without an heir; he is succeeded by Harold Godwinson who has to face the invasion of the Norwegians and the Normans; he first defeats King Harald of Hardrada of Norway, but is then defeated and killed at the Battle of Hastings by William the Conquerer, who becomes King of England.
