Mario Molina and F. Sherwood Rowland, in an article in Nature, explain the link between CFCs and the hole in the ozone layer. The treaty for the reduction of CFCs is signed in September 1987 by 197 countries. The hole in the ozone layer is decreasing, and it is estimated that it will close completely by the middle of the 21st century. Molina and Rowland will receive the Nobel Prize in 1995.
